Wicklow Gold flavored cheddar cheeses have been recalled for Listeria. Consumers who have purchased these cheeses should not eat them as Listeria can cause severe illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.

On January 3, Abbey Specialty Foods of Fairfield, NJ issued a recall for Wicklow Gold Cheddar Nettle & Chive and Wicklow Gold Cheddar Tomato & Herb cheeses. The recall was issued after Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese LTD. notified Abbey Specialty Foods of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Symptoms of a Listeria Infection

Symptoms of a Listeria infection usually develop within one day of exposure but can sometimes take as long as 70 days to appear. They include:

  • Severe headache
  • Stiff neck
  • HIgh fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Upset stomach or diarrhea
  • Loss of balance, confusion, or convulsions

Pregnant women can suffer a miscarraige or stillbirth even if they experience only mild flu-like symptoms.
