Frozen Supplemental Shakes Listeria Outbreak
A 21-state Listeria outbreak has been linked to Sysco Imperial and Lyons ReadyCare frozen supplemental shakes. The outbreak, which began in 2018, includes 38 people all but one of whom were hospitalized. Twelve people have died.
Most people included in this outbreak lived in long-term care facilities or were hospitalized before they became sick. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed through a records review that Sysco Imperial or Lyons ReadyCare nutritional shakes were available to residents and patients in this outbreak.
Frozen Supplemental Shake Recall
Lyons Magnus of Fresno, CA distributed the products, both made by Prairie Farms Dairy Inc. in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
On February 22, Lyons Magnus issued a recall for 4 oz. Lyons ReadyCare and Sysco Imperial Frozen Supplemental Shakes for potential Listeria contamination. The company has contacted customers who received the product -primarily long-term care facilities and halted purchases from the implicated Prairie Farms facility.
