Jack & the Green Sprouts Alfalfa Sprout Listeria Recall

For the second time in four months, Jack & the Green Sprouts alfalfa sprouts have been recalled for Listeria. The recalled sprouts were sold at grocery stores and co-ops in MN, WI, and Iowa. The River Falls, WI-based company issued the alfalfa sprout recall on February 7, 2025.

The recalled sprouts have an expiration date of 1/29/25, but symptoms of a Listeria infection can sometimes take as long as 70 days to develop. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth even if the pregnant mother experiences only mild flu-like symptoms.

Jack & the Green Sprouts Listeria Recall

Listeria Infection Symptoms

Symptoms of a Listeria infection usually develop within 24 hours of exposure but can sometimes take as long as 70 days to appear. They include –

  • Severe headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Muscle aches
  • Upset stomach or diarrhea
  • Loss of balance, confusion, or convulsions
  • In pregnant women, flu-like symptoms

Previous Recalls, Outbreaks

Jack & the Bean Sprouts alfalfa sprouts recalled in October 2024 were linked to a Listeria outbreak revealed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in December. At least four people were sickened but no other information about the the outbreak was released.

Jack & the Bean Sprouts alfalfa sprouts were the source of a 2016 E. coli outbreak. Eleven people were sickened and two were hospitalized.
