Prepared vegetables sold at Tokyo Central and Marukai Market stores have been recalled for botulism risk. The packaging for the vegetables, manufactured by Choshiya Honten Co. and distributed by AKT Trading, was missing the necessary “Keep Refrigerated” statement.
Lack of refrigeration for products that require it can lead to dangerous levels of bacterial growth, in this case, Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that causes botulism.
Food that poses a botulism risk may not look or smell “off.” None of the products included in this recall should be consumed.
Botulism symptoms include:

- Trouble with speaking or swallowing
- General weakness
- Difficulty breathing
- Muscle weakness
- Abdominal distension
