Organic Carrot E. coli Recall Includes Walmart, Target, Whole Foods and Other Stores [Update]

Updated November 22 with additional sizes A carrot E. coli recall linked to a deadly outbreak includes Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Costco, Hy Vee, Trader Joe’s, Kroger, Albertsons, and more. Consumers who have recently purchased organic whole or baby carrots should check recall information carefully.

On November 16, Grimmway Farms issued a recall of select organic whole carrots and organic baby carrots sold under a variety of brand names. The carrots, identified as the source of a deadly E. coli O121:H9 outbreak that includes dozens of illnesses and at least one death, should no longer be in grocery stores but consumers may still have them in their refrigerators.

The recall includes:

  • Organic whole carrots sold at retail stores from August 14 through October 23, 2024. They do not have a “best-if-used-by date printed on the bag.
  • Organic baby carrots with best-if-used-by-dates ranging from September 11 through November 12, 2024.
