Updated August 22 with more illnesses and new test results. Seven guests who stayed at RiverWalk Resort at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH in June and July contracted Legionnaires’ disease. Six of them were hospitalized.
People get Legionnaires’ disease when they inhale water droplets contaminated with Legionella bacteria. The RiverWalk Legionnaires’ outbreak has been linked to water from a cooling tower located behind the resort based on water tests conducted by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES). After the cooling tower was cleaned, the water was retested and no Legionella was detected.
