Givaudan Sense Colour Explosion – 2 Dead, 11 Injured

Two people are dead and 11 are injured after an explosion at Givaudan Sense Colour in Louisville, Kentucky. The November 12 blast occurred around 3 pm while normal operations were underway at the food dye plant located at 1901 Payne St. Some workers suffered crush injuries when the roof collapsed, while other workers were wounded with blast wounds and thermal injuries, hospital officials said.

This is the second explosion that has occurred at this location. Two decades ago, when the plant was owned by D.D. Williamson & Co., an explosion occurred killing one employee. An investigation determined that the April 2003 explosion occurred because a relief valve had been removed from a tank.
