Colorado Semi Crash Kills Newlyweds and Bride’s Mother on I-70

A tragic semi-crash on I-70 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, claimed the lives of a newlywed couple and the bride’s mother.

Just days after their wedding, Ruben Rodriguez and Juliana Rodriguez-Plata were traveling to the mountains for a honeymoon vacation with their 1-year-old son and Juliana’s parents, who were visiting from Colombia.

Shortly before 8:30 am Thursday, a semi-truck traveling east on I-70 overturned and lost its load, spilling large pipes across the highway and slamming into the family’s car.

Sadly, Ruben, Juliana, and Juliana’s mother, Luz Melba Martinez, did not survive the crash. Their son Danny and Juliana’s father Carlos Joaquin Plata, were injured.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal semi-crash are under investigation by the Wheat Ridge Police Department. Several community members contacted 9News to voice concerns about the layout of the ongoing construction zone near Ward Road and 32nd Avenue.

Family members set up a GoFundMe to help support the Rodriguez-Plata and Martinez families. Ruben’s sister-in-law, Janell Rodriguez, told Denver7, “And then the baby without both of his parents, you know? It’s hard. It’s hard for the family. So we’re just gathered here right now just trying to be strong together.”

Truck Accident Lawsuit Information

Navigating the aftermath of a semi-truck accident can be a devastating experience, marked by physical injury, emotional trauma, and financial hardship. During this difficult time, it is essential to understand your legal rights to secure the justice and compensation you deserve.

An experienced semi-truck accident lawyer will guide you through the process of holding responsible parties accountable, which may include:

  • The semi-truck driver who operated the vehicle unsafely
  • The company that owns the semi-truck, trailer, or cargo
  • The trucking or freight company responsible for upholding safety standards
  • Manufacturers of faulty truck components such as brakes, steering, lighting, tires
  • Maintenance facilities that serviced the vehicle before the semi-crash

Suing the wrongdoers who caused your family harm will help ensure you receive just and fair compensation. In cases involving the death of a loved one, families may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. While no amount of compensation can truly replace a loved one, a wrongful death lawsuit can help secure the financial future of surviving family members and seek justice for the deceased.
