Al-Safa Chicken Kebab Listeria Recall

Al-Safa brand frozen chicken kabob products have been recalled for Listeria. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause severe illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause premature delivery of an infected newborn, miscarriage and stillbirth even if the expectant mother experienced only mild flue like symptoms.

Al-Safa US of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada issued the recall of approximately 2,010 pounds of imported frozen ready-to-eat chicken products on July 5, 2024. The recall includes:

Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab

  • 12.1-oz. cardboard box package 
  • “NOV 30 25” and “0605404” printed on a sticker on the outside of the package
  • Establishment number “866” inside the Canadian mark of inspection

Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty

  • 14.11-oz. cardboard box package
  • “NOV 30 25” and “0605416” printed on a sticker on the outside of the package
  • Establishment number “866” inside the Canadian mark of inspection

The recalled, frozen, ready-to-eat chicken products were produced in Canada on June 5, 2024 and imported to the U.S. on June 13, 2024, and June 21, 2024.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered the problem through routine product testing.

Symptoms of a Listeria Infection

Symptoms of a Listeria infection usually develop within 24 hours of exposure but can sometimes take as long as 70 days to develop. They include:

  • High fever
  • Stiff neck
  • Muscle soreness
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Convulsions
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal cramps
