A Listeria recall for Zespri brand organic kiwi fruit includes all Winn Dixie, Harveys, Fresco Y Mas stores, and other retailers. Customers who have purchased this product should not eat it as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths. At the time of the recall, the company was not aware of any illnesses.
Zespri Organic Kiwi Recall
The recalled kiwi was sold in clear, plastic clamshell containers with green labels. The product was shipped to stores in FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MI, NC, NY, OH, PA, TN, TX, VA, and WI, between June 14, 2023, and July 7, 2023. The UPC code is 8 18849 02009 3, containing fruit stickered with the GTIN bar code 9400 9552.
Zepri brand kiwi sold in other states are not included in the recall.
Symptoms of a Listeria Infection
Symptoms of a Listeria infection usually appear within 24 hours of exposure to contaminated food but can sometimes take as long as 70 days to develop. They include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, other muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths even if they only experience mild symptoms of illness.
