A house explosion in Rogers, Texas, left a family devastated on Christmas Eve. Early that morning, 64-year-old Manuela Carillo and her husband, Fidel Carillo, were preparing for the holiday with four of their family members. Shortly after 9:00 AM, firefighters responded to reports of a natural gas line explosion at the Carillo’s house on 105 West Gulf Street.
Sadly, Manuela died in the explosion. Fidel suffered severe burn injuries trying to rescue her and is being treated at a burn center in Dallas. Four other family members suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The Rogers Volunteer Fire Department organized a fundraiser to help support the Carillo family at St. Matthew Parish Hall on December 31st.
An investigation into the cause and origin of the explosion is underway. Fire investigators suspect that a faulty gas water heater caused the explosion.

Texas Natural Gas Explosions Raise Public Health Concerns
Natural gas explosions are a growing public health concern in Texas. According to an investigation by the Dallas Morning News, natural gas leaks have caused more than two dozen house explosions across North and Central Texas since 2006.
After a 12-year-old girl died in a 2018 house explosion caused by a gas leak, Texas lawmakers introduced legislative reforms to improve gas line safety. In the wake of the proposed legislation, Pritzker Hageman’s explosion legal team, led by attorney Eric Hageman, appeared on CBS News to discuss the ongoing problem of gas line leaks and explosions.
