The people sickened in this outbreak said they first became ill on dates ranging from August 2, 2023, to November 11, 2023. The number of cases reported from each state is: Arizona (1), California (17), Colorado (1), Georgia (1), Iowa (1), Idaho (1), Illinois (4), Indiana (2), Kentucky (1) Massachusetts (1) Michigan (6), Montana (2), North Dakota (2), New York (1), Ohio (3), Oregon (3), Tennessee (1), Texas (1), Utah (19), Virginia (3), Washington (4), Wisconsin (4), and Wyoming (1).
Gills Onions Salmonella Recall
On October 23, Gills Onions of Oxnard, CA issued a recall for the diced onion products after being informed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that they were linked to a Salmonella Thompson outbreak. The recall includes packages of diced yellow onions, diced red onion, mirepoix, and celery and onion mix sold in 8-oz, 10-oz, and 3-lb sizes. They were sold at Basha’s Market, Chefstone, Smart & Final, and Stater Bros. stores in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
All of the recalled products had “use by” dates in August 2023 and are no longer available for sale.
Symptoms of Salmonella Infection
Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include nausea, fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that can be bloody. Usually, these symptoms develop within six to 72 hours of exposure.
