Colgate-Palmolive recalled about 5 million bottles of Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaner due to contamination with a dangerous bacteria called Pseudomonas, which can cause infection in the blood, lungs, and other parts of the body. The company said that a preservative “was not added at the intended levels during manufacturing,” which caused the products to become contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens bacteria.

Which Fabuloso Cleaner Products Are Recalled?
The recalled Fabuloso cleaners contain lot codes with the first eight digits of 2348US78 through 2365US78 and 3001US78 through 3023US78. Lot codes can be found etched into the plastic bottle either above or below the back label. The multi-use cleaners were sold from December 2022 through January 2023 online and at major retailers nationwide including amazon.com, Dollar General, Family Dollar, The Home Depot, Sam’s Club, and Walmart.

What is Pseudomonas?
Pseudomonas is a type of environmental bacteria found in water and soil. It can spread to humans through the eyes, nose, or a break in the skin. Contamination sources include household cleaning products, hospital equipment, drain and plumbing parts, water sources, and fruits and vegetables, among others.
Pseudomonas can cause infection in the blood, lungs (pneumonia), or other parts of the body after surgery. People with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, underlying lung conditions, burns, or wounds from surgery are at high risk for severe infection. Pseudomonas can infect any part of the body, including the blood, lungs, stomach, urinary tract, and tendons. Symptoms may include any of the following:
