MG Foods of Charlotte, NC has issued a recall for sandwiches sold under the brand names MG and Fresh to You because they may be contaminated with Listeria. The sandwiches were sold at the Charlotte Douglas Airport and in vending machines and in micro markets inside business locations in GA, NC, SC, and WV between March 3, 2021, and March 5, 2021. They were packaged in clear plastic wedges and in paper bags.
Consumers who have purchased these products should be aware that Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage, stillbirth or premature delivery of an infected newborn. At the time of the recall, the company was not aware of any reports of illness. However, although symptoms of a Listeria infection usually develop within two weeks, they can take as long as 70 days to develop.
Symptoms of a Listeria infection include severe headache, high fever, stiff neck, muscle stiffness, and loss of balance. If you developed these symptoms after eating one of the recalled sandwiches please see a doctor right away.
The company discovered the problem during routine testing of its facility.
