A gas explosion at a Bronx condo yesterday injured nine people, including six children, two of whom are in critical condition. A woman who was trapped on the second floor with her two injured children tossed her 6-month-old baby out the window to a neighbor on the ground below. The baby, whose hair and eyelashes were singed, landed safely in the neighbor’s arms. Another neighbor then propped a ladder on the side of the building and climbed up and help the woman and her four-year-old child to safety. The four-year-old had two broken legs and respiratory injuries.

A gas leak is the suspected source of the blast, which occurred around 3:20 p.m. blowing out windows and doors of the Paulding Ave. building. A Department of Buildings spokesperson told local media that plumbing inspectors were investigating the building’s gas system.
