Avanti Frozen Foods of India issued a recall for Chicken of the Sea, Whole Foods, Meijer, and other brands of frozen cooked shrimp in connection to a Salmonella Weltevreden outbreak that has sickened at least six people. The recall includes various brand names and package sizes of frozen cooked shrimp that were imported into the U.S. from December 2020 to February 2021. After an imported sample from Avanti tested positive for Salmonella in January, the shipment was destroyed in March. A month later, six Salmonella infections were reported that appeared to be closely related to the Salmonella found in the import sample.
