A fatal wrong-way crash killed three people and seriously injured one on I-35W in Richfield, MN. The crash happened on Saturday, June 20th just before 10:00 PM. Siblings Alaura and Tyler Fried were driving north on I-35W from their home in Lakeville to a restaurant with friends when a wrong-way driver crashed into their SUV. A group of friends driving another vehicle that was behind theirs stopped to try to get them out of the SUV. Tyler Fried (27), Briana Vazquez (25), and Hassan Abdulmalik (28) died at the scene.
Alaura Fried is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries at Hennepin Healthcare. She underwent surgery on Sunday to repair a broken hip and has a fractured skull. Her mother Gena, who cannot visit her daughter due to current restrictions, told WCCO News, “I want to thank the nurses and doctors who are working to save Alaura and holding her because I can’t.” The wrong-way driver, Alfredo Torres (21) of St. Paul, also died. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
