A recall for Valley Milk Simply Bottled raw milk and DESI Milk raw milk has been issued after samples were positive for Campylobacter in tests performed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The agency issued a statewide recall and quarantine order for Valley Milk Simply Bottled of Stanislaus County on July 1.
At the time of the recall, the dairy was not aware of any illnesses. However consumers who have purchased these products should not drink them as Campylobacter can cause serious illness.

The recalled raw milk was sold in plastic one-gallon (128 oz) jugs under the labels “Valley Milk Simply Bottled Raw Milk” and “DESI MILK Raw Milk” from 6/19/2020 through 6/30/2020, or any product with a code date marked on the container of July 9, 2020 or earlier.
CDFA found the campylobacter bacteria in a routine sample collected at the Valley Milk Simply Bottled production and packaging facility. No illnesses have been reported.
Symptoms of a Campylobacter infection usually develop within two to five days of exposure and last about a week. They include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. For people with compromised immune systems, these infections can be life-threatening.
A small percentage of people with Campylobacter infections develop a complication called Guillian-Barre Syndrome (GBS) that causes weakness and paralysis that can last for weeks or months. Some people who develop GBS have permanent nerve damage, about 5 percent of cases are fatal.
