Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Genetically Connects E. coli Contaminated Romaine Lettuce to Recent Illnesses in Michigan
Consumers are being warned to not eat ‘Tanimura & Antle’ brand romaine lettuce. Sampling has found Tanimura & Antle romaine contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, an especially dangerous type of E. coli. The genetic fingerprint of the E. coli found on the romaine lettuce is closely related to E. coli that has caused at least two illnesses in Michigan so far.
People should discard the product or return it to the store they purchased it from for a refund. If you have consumed Tanimura & Antle romaine and are experiencing symptoms of E. coli food poisoning, you should seek medical attention immediately and ask that an E. coli stool sample test be performed. If you test positive for E. coli, contact our food safety attorneys for a consultation.
