A broad range of product recalls have been issued in association with the onion Salmonella outbreak including salsa, stir fry and fajita vegetables, sandwiches, dips, wraps, kabobs and salads. Some of these products were served at restaurants.
The products were recalled because they were made with onions produced by Thomson International which have been identified as the source of the outbreak that included 640 people in 43 states, the last time the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated the numbers on August 7, 2020. At least 85 people have been hospitalized. Illnesses have also been reported in Canada.
The recalled products were sold under a variety of brand names at grocery stores including ALDI, Costco, Food Lion, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Giant, Giant Eagle, Kroger, New Market, Publix, Smiths, Stop & Shop and Walmart.
