Explosion at Watson Grinding in Houston | 2 Dead, 1 injured

Two people were killed and another was injured after an early morning explosion at Watson Grinding and Manufacturing in Houston. The explosion involved a 2,000-gallon tank of propylene, an extremely flammable gas, which has since been secured by a HazMat team.

Residents in the neighborhood said the force of the explosion knocked them out of their beds this morning just before 4:20 a.m. Some homes were knocked off of their foundations. Debris has been found as far as a ¼ mile from the blast site near the corner of Gessner and Clay Roads.

Emergency responders have blocked off traffic in the area. Both Bane Elementary School and Dean Middle School are closed today due to restricted access to the neighborhood.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 4703 Shadowdale Drive, is serving as a shelter to displaced citizens.
