Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include diarrhea that can be bloody, abdominal pain and, sometimes, fever. These symptoms usually develop within six to 72 hours of eating the contaminated food and last about a week.

Elderly people and people with compromised immune systems are at elevated risk of developing more serious illnesses than others.
