Family Injured in Lake Catherine Boat Fire and Explosion Begins Recovery

Ashley Drysdale remains hospitalized with burns on 30 percent of her body after a boat explosion and fire on Arkansas’ Lake Catherine. Ashley and five members of her family were aboard a boat in the park’s launch area when the explosion occurred around 1 p.m.on June 22.

Ashley and her husband Justin told katv.com how grateful they are to the first responders and strangers at the boat launch who helped the family when their lives changed in an instant. The other family members who were injured have been released from the hospital.

Ashley and Justin said they are experienced boaters who haven’t had problems with the boat before. But on Saturday when her dad turned the key it “just blew up.” Ashley said she jumped in the water to escape the flames that caused second and third-degree burns to her hands and legs. A family friend has created a GoFundMe page to help Ashley. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is conducting an investigation of the explosion.
