Five people were injured and another is missing after an explosion and fire at the Phillips 66 Paradis Pipeline Station in the St. Charles parish of New Orleans on February 9. Three of the injured workers were treated at the scene. Two who suffered burns were taken to St. Anne Hospital in Raceland one of them was treated and released, the other was airlifted to a burn unit in Baton Rouge.
Running from Venice to Paradis, the pipeline carries highly volatile natural gas liquids that are used to produce butane and propane. A crew of six workers was cleaning a section of the pipeline at the station near the Williams Discovery Plant at 15849 Old Spanish Trail when the fire broke out around 7 p.m. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The incident forced the temporary evacuation of 60 homes and the closure of Louisiana 631 from Louisiana 635 to Louisiana 306 in both directions. Officials expect the fire to burn for several days.
When a worker is injured or killed on the job, it is important to talk to an attorney to find out if there is a case. Compensation for these kinds of injuries can be in the millions if a company other than an employer is legally responsible. It often takes a significant amount of work to get all of the answers necessary.
