MDS Foods Inc., of Massillon, OH has recalled multiple cheese products, some of which were found to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, and other products, which may have the potential to be contaminated with the bacteria.

Deutsch Kase Haus, LLC of Middlebury, Indiana, supplied MDS Foods with certain Colby and Colby Jack minihorn cheeses that were found to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections (called listeriosis) in babies (unborn and newborn), the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems (diabetes, cancer, HIV, etc.). If a pregnant woman eats food contaminated with Listeria, the infection may spread to the fetus, causing a miscarriage or stillbirth of the baby.

At the time of this release, no illnesses have been reported. However, the incubation period for a Listeria infection can be 60 days (this is not a typo). The long incubation period means someone could eat a bite of of contaminated cheese and not get sick for 2 months.

MDS Foods, Inc. has also recalled potentially affected products that were packaged on the same production lines in our Tullahoma, TN. Facility as the affected product.

If you purchased any of the cheese products listed below from the affected sell by dates or any unreadable date codes, the FDA urges you not to consume it.

Affected and potentially affected products were distributed by MDS Foods Inc. under multiple brand labels and distributed nationwide.
