Our law firm is investigating an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in Nassau County, New York, that may be associated with the LA Fitness on Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park. The Nassau County Health Department has found Legionella, the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease in samples from the pool and spa area of that LA Fitness.
The investigation and sample testing was prompted after interviews with Legionnaires’ disease patients found a connection to being a member of that gym.
Anyone who is diagnosed with pneumonia and is a member of the LA Fitness in Garden City Park should contact a lawyer immediately regarding a lawsuit for answers, compensation and justice. Legionnaires’ is pneumonia, an infection of the lobes of the lungs that can cause permanent injury and death. Because it can be difficult to diagnose, anyone with pneumonia who is a member of the gym or visited the gym prior to onset of illness should be tested for Legionnaires’ disease.
This is an extremely deadly disease, and anyone with symptoms should seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms include the following:
- high fever
- chills
- cough (may bring up mucus and blood)
- shortness of breath
- muscle aches
- headaches
- chest pain
- fatigue
- loss of appetite
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- confusion.
Pneumonia can cause respiratory failure and death. The Legionella lung infection can travel through the blood (sepsis) to other organs, including the kidneys, heart and brain. This can lead to organ failure, septic shock and death.
If you have been diagnosed you may have the right to file a lawsuit for Legionella pneumonia compensation. If your loved one has died, you and your family may have a wrongful death claim. Your Legionnaires’ disease attorney (make sure he or she has experience winning these cases) can help you understand your legal rights.
Past Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreak Linked to an LA Fitness
In November of 2013, health officials linked two cases of Legionnaires’ disease to a hot tub at the LA Fitness club located at 1836 Freedom Drive, Naperville, Illinois. The 2 men sickened in this outbreak, both got pneumonia toward the end of October, 2013. The DuPage County Health Department interviewed the men, looking for a common source. The connection the department found was the hot tub.
To our knowledge, there have not been any other cases of Legionnaires’ disease associated with the Naperville LA Fitness.
