A gas leak is the suspected source of a house explosion in Kettering, OH that injured three people on March 27. A fourth person inside the home, located in the 400 block of Pamela Sue Drive, was unharmed when the 11:45 p.m. explosion occurred blowing the home off of its foundation.
The injured people were taken to Kettering Medical Center for treatment. Firefighters told local media that one person was seriously and one person sustained burns. An infant was inside the home when the blast occurred, officials have not disclosed the nature of the injuries, if any, that the infant sustained.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, they found the home severely damaged but not on fire. Kettering Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Miller described the blast as a rare event and urged anyone who smells gas inside their homes to get out and call the fire department. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
Fire investigators have not yet determined why the explosion occurred. Their investigation is ongoing.

The Ohio Department of Commerce has a Fire and Explosion Investigations Bureau that is charged with determining the cause of certain incidents. Local fire investigators can call the FEIB for difficult cases that require specialized experience. Situations where the agency might be involved include, but are not limited to, incidents where there is a fatality or serious explosion injuries.
