Girl, 7, Airlifted to Hospital after NoDa Apartment Fire

A seven-year-old girl who suffered severe burns in a NoDa apartment fire was airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Burn Center in Winston-Salem. Fire crews arrived at the Twin Oaks Apartments off of East 36th Street in the arts district NoDa just after 2:15 a.m. today.

Katlyn Cook suffered second and third-degree burns to 50 percent of her body – from her head to her knees. She has burns on her face and needs the help of a machine to breathe.

Her mother Rajeeni told WBTV News that she woke to the screams of her daughter and saw fire under the door. Katlyn was taken to Carolinas Medical Center and later flown to the Wake Forest University Baptist Burn Center. A GoFundMe page has been set up for Katlyn.

Twenty-seven firefighters battle the blaze, which destroyed two apartment units,  for 15 minutes. No other injuries were reported.
