A truck driver and his passenger were killed in a crash between two semi tractor trailers and an oil tanker. The accident happened near a railroad crossing on Highway 52 at 10:30 pm on Friday, February 12, 2016.
Those killed were a 54-year-old man and his passenger, a 46-year-old man. They were in a Kenworth semi truck that rear-ended a second Kenworth semi that was hauling lumber and pushed it into a third truck, a crude oil tanker. The drivers in the other two vehicles were not hurt.
The driver is survived by his wife, ten children, and thirteen grandchildren. His passenger is survived by his wife, two daughters, three stepchildren, and two grandsons.
While accidents between passenger cars and semi trucks often result in injury or death to those in the smaller cars, accidents between semi trucks can and do injure and kill semi drivers and their passengers. There could be many factors that occurred during this accident, including:
- Speeding
- Driver inattention
- Driving too fast for conditions
- Inexperienced driver
- Improper vehicle maintenance
