An E. coli outbreak has sickened at least 30 people who attended the Richey Centennial Event & All Class Reunion from July 15 through July 17. So far, the outbreak includes case patients from at least eight states and six Montana counties, but officials from the Dawson County Health Department and the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services say new cases are still being reported.
Symptoms of an E. coli infection include abdominal cramping and diarrhea that can be bloody. Complications of E. coli food poisoning include Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) which can cause kideny failure, seizure, stroke, coma and death. At least six people in this outbreak have becoe so sick they required hospitalization.
Our E. coli lawyers have represented people who suffered permanent injury and families of people who died. Past E. coli outbreaks have been caused by ground beef, vegetables, fruit, flour and dairy products.
Montana health officials are still trying to determine the food source of the outbreak. They are cautioning anyone who attended the event not to consume any leftover foods they may have brought back from the event and to contact their local health department if they still have leftover food so it can be tested.
