One Woman Injured in Canton Baltimore House Fire

Firefighter battles house fire

One woman was injured in a house fire in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore in a fire that began late Thursday night. The fire in the rowhome, located in the 1200 block of S. Clinton St., was reported at about 10:45 p.m. It quickly and spread to two neighboring rowhomes, both of which were unoccupied.

When the first fire crew arrived at the scene, flames from the roof and the second-floor windows were shooting five to ten feet in the air, fire crews told local media. Smoke from the blaze could be seen from blocks away, according to witnesses. Seventy firefighters battled the two-alarm blaze for more than an hour.

A 60-year-old woman jumped from her back deck to escape the smoke and flames. She was transported to the burn center. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There have been five fire-related fatalities in Baltimore so far this year.
