Two men were severely burned in a trailer home explosion on Clarence Lane in Nampa. They were flown to Salt Lake City. The names of the men have not been released.
The explosion happened just before midnight January 20, 2016. A neighbor said she heard more than one explosion. Five people and five dogs were living in the trailer home. Three of the people and the animals, including a pig that lived outside, were not injured, according to news reports.
The preliminary investigation ruled out a natural gas leak as the cause of the explosion.
Fire and Explosions in Trailer Homes
Residents of manufactured housing are at increased risk of fire-related injury and death, according to the CDC. Each year, fires in manufactured housing cause between 210 and 345 deaths, 765 injuries. Causes of explosions include natural gas leaks (ruled out in this case), propane tank explosions, space heaters, water heaters and defective appliances. Trailer home fires can also be caused by faulty electrical systems, including wiring, power switchgear or over-current protection devices, transformers, and meter boxes.
