Man Injured After Tractor Trailer Hits Guardrail

A multi-vehicle accident in Bayview, which is located in Margaretta Township, injured a man on May 4, 2016. The accident happened on SR-2 on the Thomas Edison Bridge just west of SR-269 around 8:55 a.m. A semi truck moving westbound hit the median guardrail, which broke off and went through the truck onto the road. Part of the guardrail sailed through the air, landed in eastbound traffic, and was struck by two vehicles.

A 40-year-old man from Oak Harbor was hurt when his 1995 Ford F-150 hit the guardrail that was on the road. He was taken to Magruder Hospital with injuries. The driver of the semi truck, a 39-year-old man from Mansfield, was also taken to the hospital. The big rig was carrying more than 50,000 pounds of landscape stone at the time of the accident.

The semi driver claimed that he suffered an illness which made him lose control of the tractor trailer, but authorities examined his log book, which all truck drivers are required to keep, and found discrepancies, according to news accounts. Mr. Collier was cited for driving with impaired alertness and failure to control his vehicle.
