Deadly I-95
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, I-95 is the most deadly highway in the United States. 2 And, although the highway extends through 15 states, the highest number of accidents occur in the State of Florida, especially in northern Florida. According to FHP statistics, there were 1,173 traffic accidents on I-95 between April, 2014 and April, 2015 just between the Florida/Georgia state line and the southern boundary of Flagler County. These accidents resulted in 573 people being injured and 25 being killed. Flagler County alone reported 50 death or injury accidents on I-95. An FHP spokesperson indicated to Jacksonville’s Channel 4 News that speed and distracted drivers are to blame for the majority of I-95 accidents.
