A crash between two semi trucks in Toledo killed one of the drivers. It happened on January 26, 2016 at 1:30 am on I-75 on the northbound side of the road near the Turnpike exit in Perrysburg Township.
A 67-year-old man of Romulus, Michigan, was driving a semi that struck a slow-moving semi that was having mechanical problems. The slow semi had its hazard lights flashing. The man died at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, leaving behind a wife and nine children. The driver of the other truck suffered minor injuries.
The semi truck was a 2014 Freightliner that was carrying automobile parts. The slow moving vehicle was a 2000 WSTR flatbread truck that was carrying metal pieces.
While most accidents involving semi trucks occur between the trucks and passenger vehicles, crashes between two commercial vehicles do happen and are often deadly. There could be many reasons for these accidents, including driver fatigue, traveling too fast or too slow for conditions, lack of mechanical upkeep, or an inexperienced driver.
The laws that govern the trucking industry are different from laws that govern passenger vehicles. These vehicles must be maintained and drivers must be properly trained and licensed.
Evidence gathered after a crash must be properly logged and maintained. In addition, the accident must be investigated, and perhaps re-constructed. And remember that wrongful death lawsuits are complicated and can involve many corporations and insurance companies.
