The driver of a semi rig and a passenger in an automobile died early Thursday, November 19th. 1 According to one of the survivors of the crash, the automobile stalled and attempted to pull out of the way of traffic on the right lane of I-290 westbound at Mason Road. However, due to construction, there is currently no shoulder on that stretch of highway. The driver got out of the car to see what was wrong with it. Shortly thereafter, his girlfriend alerted him to the fact that a semi truck was heading right for their stopped vehicle.
The pair jumped out of the way, but there were three remaining passengers of the car, one of whom was unable to get out before the big rig slammed into the car, engulfing both vehicles in flame. 2 Both the driver of the semi and the passenger remaining in the car were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to the Harris County Coroner’s Office. The names of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of relatives. The accident closed the highway for several hours.
Accidents like this happen every day. We urge drivers of big rigs to be prepared to slow down for construction zones. Our lawyers are licensed to practice in Minnesota.
