Our attorneys represent people who have been hit by drunk drivers in Minnesota, including families whose children have died or been horribly injured. Adults who chose to drive under the influence of alcohol put innocent lives at risk.
Drunk driving tragedies are all too preventable. In certain cases, in addition to holding the drunk driver responsible, survivors are able to hold alcohol suppliers (bars, restaurants, etc.) responsible for serving a person who should not have been drinking. These actions are covered under Minnesota dram shop laws.
Accident News
The accident below is an example of how driving under the influence of alcohol can cause serious injury.
A woman is expected to appear in court this week on felony charges related to the severe injuries suffered by two seventh grade boys who were struck by her vehicle in a crosswalk near their school. Here’s the Tweet that the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office sent out November 5, just one day after the boys were knocked into the air with potentially deadly force: “Kristen Anderick chrgd w/ fel DUI w/ injury, fel driving w/ BAC > .08, & 2 fel cts of child endangerment w/ allegations of GBI. Ct” Translated, that means Anderick faces one count of felony drunk driving with injury, one count of driving with a blood alcohol concentration of more than .08, and two counts of child endangerment with allegations of great bodily injury.
School administrators said the outpouring of concern, support and well wishes from the broader community has been heart-warming and greatly appreciated. Some of the actions taken so far include:
- Get Well cards for both students have been signed by the students’ classmates and delivered to the hospital.
- Get Well posters were signed by Marina students and staff and delivered to the hospital
- Balloons and candy were delivered to the hospital for both students from Ms. McDougal’s Band classes.
- All proceeds from Marina’s Annual Winter Concert in December will be donated to the families.
- Parent Alison O’Mahony is helping to coordinate parent support for the families.
- A GoFundMe account has been set up to support both families.
- Stop Signs are to be installed at the Bay & Buchanan intersection immediately.
- Supervisor Mark Farrell will attend a Parent Coffee at Marina to discuss planned changes for Bay Street.
Police have said the two San Francisco school children suffered critical injuries. Anderick, 30, is a school teacher and a former debutante who lives in an especially affluent area of San Francisco. According to multiple accounts of the crash, her white Volkswagen Tiguan SUV passed a commercial truck that had stopped to allow the boys to cross the street. Photos from the scene show articles the boys had in their possession laying in the intersection after the impact. Police said the children were thrown about 40 feet. Conditions were clear and it was about 8:30 a.m. The posted speed limit in the area is 25 mph. The District Attorney’s Office said Andereck is out on $230,000 bail and the case has been covered by newspapers as far away as London.
