A beloved school bus driver was driving students, staff and chaperones on a school field trip when the bus crashed into a semi-truck that pulled out in front of her. She was seriously injured and died one week after the 18-wheeler crash in Richland County, about six miles east of Kindred.
According to Highway Patrol reports, the fatal bus-truck accident happened in the morning under foggy conditions and it led to three other trucks piling up in the middle of the highway and ditch. The bus driver was driving to a field trip for Kindred Public Schools. She reportedly worked for the district in Kindred, located about 20 miles southwest of Fargo, for more than 25 years. A funeral for the dedicated school bus is scheduled for midweek, including a visitation at Kindred High School.
With visibility limited by the fog, one of the questions about this accident is what precautions did the semi-truck driver take to avoid the collision?
Trucking is a regulated industry and commercial rigs are required to follow a host of rules, including weight restrictions and rest hours for the driver. That’s why semi-truck accidents are investigate differently.
