An Iowa truck driver died yesterday in a tragic crash involving four semi tractors on Interstate 90 (I-90) in Minnesota.
At about 1:39 p.m. December 7, 2015, a Freightliner (F1) was pulled over and stopped on westbound I-90 in Olmsted County. Another Freightliner (F2) was also traveling westbound on I-90 when it struck the left rear of F1. One driver was injured. One of the semi-trailer trucks spilled its load across both westbound lanes of I-90.
Eleven minutes later, at about 1:50 p.m., another Freightliner (F3) and a Peterbilt semi collided at the previous accident scene. According to the preliminary investigation, the Peterbilt was stopped at the scene of the previous accident, and F3 was unable to stop before rear ending the Peterbilt. One truck driver was tragically killed on impact, and one was injured, according to preliminary findings.
The first accident was right after a blind curve. If the evidence finds that the driver of F3 did not have time to stop once he rounded the curve, his family may have wrongful death claims against one or more of the other drivers and others, including trucking companies and the owner of the load that was blocking the road. This is not going to be an easy case.
