Debris in the road is the cause of a fatal tractor-trailer crash on I-95 in Duval County, Florida, today. Five vehicles were involved, including 3 18-wheelers with trailers, a car and an SUV. The driver of the SUV was killed.
This tragic crash was preventable, and those responsible should be held accountable for the wrongful death.
According to the preliminary report, a tractor-trailer lost was driving on I-95 when it hit debris in the roadway, which disabled the truck’s brakes. It pulled over and stopped.
Another tractor-trailer jackknifed across northbound I-95 when it swerved to miss the debris. The SUV drove underneath it,
A third semi truck hit a stopped car. The two occupants of the car were injured, but are expected to survive.
Criminal charges are pending.
Earlier this year, a crash near the same area was caused by a ladder in the road. A pickup truck towing an RV trailer was traveling northbound on I-95 near the Duval-St. Johns border when it swerved to miss the ladder. The trailer jackknifed, and crushed the driver’s side of the pickup, killing the driver. The driver’s wife was taken to the hospital.
