Minnesota Bicycle Crash Help
Bicycle accident attorney Fred Pritzker, an avid cyclist himself, represents victims and their families. He has recovered millions in wrongful death cases, including more than $2.4 million from a jury that sided with Mr. Pritzker in his courtroom fight to hold a semi-truck driver accountable for running over a bicycle rider in a rural area, killing her. Pritzker has seen an increase in bicycle accident lawsuits.
Student Fatally Injured While Riding His Bicycle
A student was riding his bicycle at 7:30 in the morning this week when he was struck and fatally injured by a motor vehicle at an intersection. The 19-year-old aerospace engineering sophomore had a bright future and is being remembered as a loving, funny, outgoing, intelligent young man who was close to his family. He died within hours of the crash at Sunridge Drive and Toms Creek Road after medical personnel provided emergency care. Police told local reporters that the driver of the vehicle was not charged with violations at the scene, but the accident remains under investigation. The vehicle landed on the student, pinning him to the ground. There were eyewitnesses who said it took seven people to lift the vehicle and free him.
According to a government report recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), bicyclists are dying on U.S. roads at a rate double that of vehicle occupants. And while the overall mortality rate for bicycle trips has fallen since 1975 — especially among children — age-specific cyclist mortality rates for adult riders aged 35–74 years have increased in traffic accidents since 1975. The CDC said the figures “suggest an opportunity for expanding traditional road safety interventions in the United States…. designed to protect cyclists.” That’s because, overall, the proportion of road deaths accounted for by cyclists, has increased and bicycling for commuting and other utilitarian purposes has been rising.
