There have been 2 soybean sprouts recalls in 2015, both issued because the sprouts may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, bacteria that can cause serious illness. An infection with this pathogen is called listeriosis.
Go-Hang Soybean Sprouts Recall
The first recall was issued February 9 by Korean Food Co., a Texas company. It recalled 8 20-bag boxes of Go-Hang Soybean sprouts distributed Jan 30, 2015 – Feb 6, 2015 to KO-MART in Dallas, H-MART in Plano, and Carrollton retail stores in Texas.

Jack and the Beanstalk Soybean Sprouts Recall
The second sprouts recall in 2015 was issued by Hanbit Enterprises, Inc., a California company doing business as Jack and the Beanstalk. It issued a recall of soybean sprouts in 1lb, 1.5lb, 10 lb, and Natto plastic bags that were distributed through February 12, 2015, with best-if-used-by dates up to February 19, 2015.

These sprouts were distributed to San Francisco area stores and restaurants.
As stated above, the recall was issued because the sprouts may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. Although no illnesses have been reported to date, the incubation period for Listeria can be as long as 70 days. So we won’t know until March or April if anyone was sickened.
Why Were These Recalls Issued?
Both of these recalls were issued because the FDA found Listeria bacteria in finished product. The testing was part of a routine sampling program administered by the FDA.
Listeria can cause meningitis, an infection of the lining of the brain.
