Our law firm is investigating a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak linked to the Old Country Buffet in Maple Grove, MN. At least 23 people have been sickened in the outbreak, according to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). To date, 11 of the 23 have tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis infections.
The food source of the outbreak has not been determined. Because Minnesota has one of the best health investigators in the nation, it is often the first to identify the existence and source of an outbreak. DNA fingerprints of the outbreak strain of Salmonella will be compared to outbreak data from other states.
Salmonella Enteritidis is one of the most common types of Salmonella, most often linked to undercooked eggs and poultry. It results in fever, stomach cramps and diarrhea severe enough to require hospitalization, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
