Attorney Eric Hageman was a faculty member for a legal seminar put on by the National Business Institute entitled “Truck Accident Litigation 101.″
His presentation gave attorneys attending the seminar some guidance on providing the best possible representation to people whose lives have been shattered by a traffic accident caused by a commercial truck. His discussed the following:
- Interviewing the client and family members;
- Educating the client and family members at the initial interview;
- Acting quickly to obtain information;
- Obtaining evidence of the financial status and insurance status of the trucking company;
- Finding evidence showing the trucking company or the truck driver did not care about safety;
- Sending a spoliation letter;
- Requesting relevant records and reports;
- Getting statements from witnesses;
- Inspecting the crash vehicles and scene of the accident;
- Obtaining expert witnesses (forensic engineers, accident reconstruction specialists, etc.);
- Obtaining evidence for a product liability claim;
- Litigating a wrongful death claim;
- Filing a lawsuit;
- Obtaining evidence through “discovery”, a legal term that refers to the legal processes used to obtain evidence after a lawsuit has been filed.
