Endo International Plc, owner of American Medical Systems (AMS), has agreed to a $400 million settlement for women injured by AMS Perigee, Apogee and Elevate mesh implants, which were surgically implanted to treat incontinence.
“Endo International plc today announced that it has reached master settlement agreements with several of the remaining leading plaintiffs’ law firms to resolve claims relating to vaginal mesh products sold by Endo’s AMS subsidiary,” Endo International said in a statement.
The statement was for the benefit of shareholders, to inform them of the settlement agreement and allay any fears that the settlement will damage the company financially. Rajiv De Silva, president and chief executive officer of Endo, provided this statement: “These settlements will allow us to continue to invest in the growth of our business segments and pursue accretive M&A opportunities. We believe that these settlements will also allow the AMS business to continue its return to growth and enhance focus on the operations and profitability of this leading medical device franchise.”
Earlier this year, Endo agreed to pay about $830 million to settle cases with women who alleged the AMS mesh products caused organ damage.
