A tragic accident near Jordan, Minnesota resulted in the deaths of two men from Minnesota.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Ford Escape was going east on 173rd Street West, just north of Jordan. The car attempted to make a left turn onto Highway 169, when it was broadsided by a Freightliner semitrailer going south on Highway 169.
Was the Truck Driver at Fault?
The Minnesota State Patrol initial report on the crash does not make it clear which driver is at fault. Even if the semi truck driver had the right of way, if he or she was speeding, that would change the equation. Also, the passenger of the car was not at fault, and his family may have wrongful death claims against a number of parties.
It is extremely important to get a lawyer to do an independent investigation. Our lawyers look at speed, driver distractions (cell phone, eating, etc.), hours on the road and possible fatigue, and other factors when building a case against a truck driver and trucking company.
“If a truck driver involved in an accident is over 50% at fault, the family can generally recover some compensation,” said Fred Pritzker, a national traffic safety lawyer with offices in the Twin Cities. Fred and Eric Hageman, another attorney at our law firm, recently won $4 million for a family in a wrongful death case.
“For most family members it is not about the money, it is about getting answers and seeking justice,” said Fred.
