The investigation into 2 head-on collisions in Minnesota on Saturday, April 19, 2014, is focusing on why the drivers in each case crossed the center line. 90% of head-on collisions in Minnesota are related to passing. Most of these cases happen on 2-lane rural roads.
“Determining the cause of these accidents is important both for the families and as a matter of public safety,” said Fred Pritzker, an attorney who represents clients in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits throughout the state. He recently won a $4M car accident settlement for a family in a wrongful death case. Fred and his team of lawyers independently investigate accidents for their clients.
“Families want answers after a tragic accident, and they want to find out if anything can be done to prevent similar accidents,” said Fred.

In addition to holding negligent drivers accountable, Fred advocates for safety measures that have proven to save lives. “The Minnesota Department of Transportation has started installing cable median barriers on stretches of road where there have been a number of accidents caused by passing,” said Fred. “An installation along I-94 in Maple Grove resulted in a 100% reduction of fatalities and a 90% reduction in crash severity. With this kind of success, more of these barriers need to be installed.”
