Attorney Fred Pritzker is investigating the E. coli O157:H7 outbreak associated with eating at Los Burritos Mexicanos in Lombard, Illinois. There are 4 confirmed cases of E. coli and 6 suspected cases. All 4 of the people with confirmed cases ate at Los Burritos.
E. coli bacteria can lodge in the colon and cause an infection called colitis. This is why many people with E. coli food poisoning have bloody diarrhea. Colitis can damage the colon so much that part of it dies, meaning soft tissue is destroyed to the point that it can’t regenerate. When this happens, that part of the colon needs to be removed.
At this time, we are not sure of the medical conditions of the people sickened after eating at Los Burritos Mexicanos restaurant in Lombard. We only know that 4 people have laboratory confirmed cases (E. coli was found in a stool sample) and that 6 other people have symptoms of this dangerous foodborne illness. What this means legally is that these people may have a lawsuit against this restaurant. Find out if you can sue the restaurant for food poisoning.
Our experience is that many of these kinds of outbreaks are caused by produce that was already contaminated when it was sold to the restaurant. You will need to talk with an E. coli lawyer to discuss how this may affect your case.
