A load of 10-foot metal hoppers fell off of a semi truck after it hit a railroad bridge on Monday in Chippewa County. The hoppers fell onto a passing car, killing the driver, of Granite Falls, Minnesota. According to the Minnesota State Patrol reports, the semi driver failed by more than a foot to squeeze under the bridge.
As is the case in most of these cases, the semi driver was not hurt. Attorney Fred Pritzker recently settled a wrongful death case very similar to this one for $2,850,000.00.
“Lost load accidents are almost always easily preventable. In these cases, I and my team look at several factors to determine why the accident happened and if the family can get punitive damages from the trucking company,” said Fred. Fred and Eric were named “Attorneys of the Year” last year for winning a $2,500,000.00 wrongful death verdict for a family whose loved one had been hit by a semitrailer truck.
The semi truck wrongful death accident occurred about 6:45 a.m. on Highway 59, north of Milan. The semi was heading south on highway 59, hauling three large metal hoppers used for cement. According to the preliminary accident report, they measured about 10 feet in diameter and about 13 feet high. The load’s total height was 15 ½ feet, while the bridge clearance is 14.1 feet, according to the Minnesota State Patrol said.
