March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month. Each year, over 1.5 million people suffer traumatic brain injury (TBI). Attorney Fred Pritzker has helped victims of TBI get compensation from negligent drivers, bus and trucking companies and others. For accident victims with severe TBI, this is particularly important because they generally need significant medical treatment for the duration of their lives.
“Brain Injury Awareness Month is important for prevention and to obtain more funding for TBI research that could lead to improved health and quality of life for TBI survivors,” said Fred.
TBI injuries can be closed or penetrating. Most traffic accident TBI cases are closed head injuries, where the brain is injured when it moves violently within the skull. We recently settled a case for a man who had a penetrating TBI, one where a foreign object penetrated his skull. The object was a towing hook used to tow semi trucks. Our client was sitting in the stalled semi cab when the hook crashed through the windshield and struck the side of his head. He lost an eye and one side of his head was smashed.
